Squirrel on a tree on TCU campus

A Culture of Giving Back

Posted on

Dear Horned Frogs,

The popularity of the furry friends who share our beautiful campus continues to grow. It started in 2024 with an April Fool’s joke from Chancellor Boschini that had more than a few students and alumni questioning the future of our beloved SuperFrog. Even news outlets got in on the joke, and across Texas, the TCU Squirrel enjoyed new-found fame.

Fast-forward to spring 2025, when our creative Advancement and Marketing & Communications teams put the adorable (not pesky!) creatures front and center in a campaign to encourage students to give back. For just $3, Horned Frogs can name a TCU Squirrel and contribute to student scholarships. The campaign’s primary goal is to strengthen TCU’s community of philanthropy and culture of giving. It highlights the important fact that any gift – no matter the size – has an impact.

I was excited to see this clever campaign take off (already 403 squirrels and counting named as of this posting), and I was honored to join in the fun by making the announcement for social media. Over 40% of all squirrel names so far have come from our generous students. The rest are from alumni, parents, faculty/staff and Horned Frogs fans throughout the community. It turns out that the TCU Squirrel has more than just 15 minutes of fame (watch on WFAA and Fox4News).

Kudos to our TCU staff for their endless creativity, and thank you to all who have participated in the campaign.

My squirrel’s certificate sits proudly on my desk.

Lead On, TCU, and Go Frogs (and squirrels)!
