Finish Strong

Posted on

Dear Horned Frogs,

The finish is in sight! Whether you have finals ahead, papers to grade or projects to complete, I know that everyone has a list of what needs to be accomplished before our winter break begins (and then, for many of you, there is the “other” list of what needs to be accomplished when it comes to enjoying the holidays with your families and friends).

For tips on how to finish strong and make the most of the holiday season, Eric Wood, Director of Counseling & Mental Health, offers ideas all Horned Frogs can quickly put into practice:

  • Take a minute to breathe. Literally – stop and breathe. Research suggests that it takes just 3 minutes of relaxation to transition away from a stressed state. So, giving yourself a few minutes every day can make such a difference!
  • Be generous. This holiday season, be generous with kindness, understanding, patience and time. Being generous fosters a positive mindset, a great buffer for stress and anxiety.
  • Make a list and check it twice. Don’t procrastinate; make a list and prioritize! Procrastination is a form of avoidance that ultimately creates stress and reduces confidence. The reverse is also true in that accomplishments reduce stressors and build confidence.

Finish strong, and Lead On!
