Leading On Through Athletics: Community + Opportunity

Posted on

Dear Horned Frogs,

There’s nothing quite like Horned Frog spirit on game day. It has been great to see the pride of the Texas Christian University community on full display at our recent home games. From our sold-out season opener to record-breaking student section attendance (nearly 7,000 students!) at the Iron Skillet rivalry, I’m reminded of the incredible energy that happens when Horned Frogs rally together.

It is no surprise that in strategic planning surveys, athletics was identified by students, alumni, faculty, staff and stakeholders as an important part of TCU’s past, present and future – leading athletics to become one of four key pillars in our Lead On: Values in Action strategic plan.

Horned Frogs athletics often serve as our “front porch,” helping draw the attention of talented prospective students and families from all corners of the globe. Sports have long propelled TCU from a respected regional university onto the national stage, and that momentum continues to open doors of opportunity across academics, research and beyond. Next year, athletics will take our community to Ireland for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. This is a huge opportunity for TCU to showcase our university globally. Not only will it draw eyes to our football program, it will also provide a gateway for us to tell our academic story, showcase our economic impact, generate excitement among our fan base, create opportunities for student academic exchanges and reinforce our commitment to a world-class student and student-athlete experience. The opportunities are endless.

Through the Athletics pillar goals in our strategic plan, guided by Athletics Director Mike Buddie and his leadership team, as well as our outstanding coaches and staff, we are building programs that not only compete at the highest levels but also support the holistic growth of our student-athletes as competitors, scholars and citizens. Our vision is to be a true destination for student-athletes who seek elite competition while being members of a university community that genuinely values their development. Check out the TCU Magazine feature on this and more in “The New Frontier for TCU Athletics.”

Athletics aren’t just about winning games; they are about building our brand, attracting top talent, fostering community and strengthening our ties for decades to come.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings. The way Horned Frogs come together reminds me why TCU is such a special place to call home.

See you at the next home game. Go Frogs!
